The Vancouver Island Local History Society and the Nanaimo Museum have partnered to develop a travelling exhibit. Support for the project comes from the Government of Canada through the Access to Heritage component of the Museums Assistance Program. The exhibit will be bilingual (English and French). The exhibit will travel through select branches of the Vancouver Island Regional Library beginning in 2026. It will then travel to the Nanaimo Museum and other partner locations. If you are interested in hosting the exhibit in 2027, please sign up for project updates (below).
Esquimalt & Nanaimo (E&N) Railway Land Grants: 140 Years Later will examine the history of the E&N Railway and its associated land grants on Vancouver Island. The exhibition will highlight the ongoing impacts of colonialism and land grants on First Nation treaty negotiations, as well as the future of rail transportation during the climate crisis. Donations to this project can be made through our CanadaHelps page, click here.
