Dear Mrs. O’Reilly

Thank you for your kind invitation; I’m sorry I cannot come Friday, we are entertaining the Admiral that evening. I dont see my way to being on shore in the evening until Tuesday next, will that day suit you? If so, I shall be most happy to come. I’m sorry we cannot have the pleasure of Miss O’Reilly’s & Miss Cornwall’s company on Thursday. Please tell them I’ve been in a state of mental depression since I received your letter this morning, & have almost worked out a scheme of revenge[?] When I told Mr Williamson, he only remarked, “that’s all right, there will be more to eat for me”. I am not such a hungry philosopher.

Believe me

Very sincerely yours

Harry Stanhope
