Dear Miss O’Reilly
5.Jan
I returned to town yesterday, & found your letter here, dated
2 Dec. Why they never forwarded it to me they cannot explain. I am very much annoyed, & am so sorry.
Yes, I have been ill and doing a cure. It has set me up enough to offer my services for a ship, and you will see my appointment to a ship in the Mediterranean in a few days time. She is the “Melita”, & now at Constantinople. I hope I shall get strong again soon. I shall be probably leaving by land about the 10th [l8th?], so if you are anywhere near town before that, will you kindly let me know, as I should so much like to see you again.
Very sincerely yours
Harry Stanhope
