New Westminster

My own beloved.

How can I find words to tell you of my disappointment on Thursday last when the fact was apparent that you had not come all day I was counting the moments till I should see your dear face.

& when the whistle blew, which was not till dark. John started in the pony carriage, we waited with great anticipation only to be disappointed. I say we for Frank was like a lunatic all day with excitement about your coming. He & the Puss were waiting for you with open arms At this time I am speaking only of ourselves how to desolate & lonely must

you had been. I hope dear one that you were made to change your situation, that you stayed after McKays. It has not seemed like Christmas. I have not been to Church, the weather has been wretched and everything dull. Joe insisted on our coming to Fairfield I tried to say no but he would not hear & any different,

and came himself for us, bundled us into the carriage & shut us up with curtains. Mr. & Mrs. Ker only were added to the party. Frank & Puss both sat at table I behaved very well. We were to have you back to-day but the rain still continues & I don’t much believe its clearing up that I see a little attempt at red in the sky this evening (Tuesday)

Sunday was rather bitter but yesterday was dreadful & I am troubling about you my own dear husband what a wet disagreeable trip you will have in the canoe. I hope you have started long ere this, in order to make sure. I am sorry to say I am not at all well I don’t know what is the matter

but I seem to have no heart nor strength but if the weather was better & I could get out I dare say I shall be all right at any rate your coming will do me good dearie God grant that you may have a safe journey. Tom, the Chinaman came to assist on Xmas day. Mashell was also invited to come & have his dinner.

The latter I am sorry to say has been unwell spitting blood & is frightened about himself. Tom has been hard at work cleaning the house he is a good creature. Julia has been again in domestic difficulties & they actually have Mary here cooking by the day but I don’t think that will last

I send you Joe’s & Mr. H’s notes & from them you will judge that I fully expected you. The children have had no presents everything has been deferred till your coming. Two days more & please God. We shall meet once more with much fond love

I am you loving & dear wife
