WINDSOR HOTEL
Montreal Tuesday 3rd June 1888
My dearest Wife.
It is better to send you a line when I can & as I am detained here for some hours I will tell you of my journey from N.Y. — The same indescribable confusion at Depot that existed when we last came this way – every berth in sleeper taken with three extra cars on. I applied at 10 am but was too late so I had to sit it out. Train two hours late here so have to wait for next Ottawa train 4.30 & should arrive there about 9.-
I enclose Joe’s letter from it you will get late Victoria news – but I am disappointed that there is no allusion to Frank I felt vicious – perhaps he may have done so in the letter he says he sent from Ottawa – I will send you a weekly Times in which I have marked some items of interest.
I posted letters yesterday at N.Y. to you, Frank, Puss, & Grace. I tried to tell you about the Cabins I hope you were able to understand. Dont forget that you can hire Deck Chairs from the Deck Steward 55/- for the trip. — What am I to do with the old clothes you left in bundles at Pt Ellice? ____
I hope you have not forgotten to buy a good pr of scissors to send in Basket? Dont omit to send the newspapers with an acct of the trial of ODonnel & The Times.
Two weeks today since I said good bye to dear Jack. & a very unsatisfactory good bye it was. I am hoping there may be a Telegram for me at Ottawa to say that Frank is to have work. – it is hard times for the lad – I intend to make inquiries at Ottawa, & see if something cannot be got for him.
I hope, dear one, that you Frank, & Puss continue well & that I may soon have the pleasure of hearing of you. Remember me very kindly to Sir Michael and to our inquiring friends. – I must have something to eat it is nearly 2 pm & I have not had breakfast yet. I am of course very anxious to know how you get on. What you do & all about the trio. – With best love to you all.
Believe me always your affect. husband
